What happens next
- We review the notice. Incomplete notices may not be acted on; we may ask for more.
- If it is valid, we remove or disable access to the material and tell the person who posted it.
- That person may send a counter-notice if they believe the removal was a mistake.
- We forward a valid counter-notice to you. Unless you tell us you have filed a court action, we restore the material 10 to 14 business days later.
Repeat infringers
Each upheld notice counts as a strike against the account that posted the material. Accounts that reach 3 strikes are terminated in appropriate circumstances. A strike is removed if the material is restored after a counter-notice.
Misrepresentation
Knowingly false notices or counter-notices can make the sender liable for damages under § 512(f).
